Sometimes love might be pain, but this tasty Valentine’s Day tribute to legendary rocker Joan Jett by a Los Angeles’ pizzeria slaps—in the best way. To honor Jett, whose iconic hit “I Love Rock ’n Roll” just celebrated its 40-year anniversary, PIZZANISTA! is launching a limited-edition Joan Jett x PETA pie with a black heart-shaped crust—a nod to both the Blackhearts and Jett’s big heart for animals. Bad Reputation fans can mark the occasion outside the pizzeria, too, where colorful murals by artist Tait Roelofs make an inviting backdrop for Instagram snaps.
“Joan Jett has said that if there’s anything she loves more than rock ’n’ roll, it’s animals, so this edgy vegan pizza is the perfect tribute,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “Anyone who wants to follow her kind example should stop supporting the dirty deeds of the meat and dairy industries and go vegan.”
People who go vegan spare animals immense suffering; slash their own risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, and strokes; dramatically shrink their carbon footprint; and help prevent future pandemics.
The tribute to Jett will run for four months starting on January 22, with a 20% discount to PETA members. This special pizza will fill the heart as well as the stomach, since $2 from each purchase will go to support PETA’s lifesaving work for animals.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
