In a tribute to Joan Jett, a pair of can’t-miss colorful murals by artist Tait Roelofs now adorn the bright blue walls of PIZZANISTA! in the downtown Arts District. Jettheads can snap a pic in front of the epic artwork before heading inside the pizzeria to enjoy the limited-edition Joan Jett x PETA pie: a black heart-shaped crust (in honor of the Blackhearts and Jett’s big heart for animals) piled high with veggies and melty vegan cheese from Miyoko’s Creamery, served in a heart-shaped box—just in time for Valentine’s Day.
“Joan Jett has said that if there’s anything she loves more than rock ’n’ roll, it’s animals, so this set of can’t-miss murals advertising vegan pizza is a fantastic tribute,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “PETA can’t wait to see snaps of Tait Roelofs’ eye-catching artwork popping up on social media as fans flock to PIZZANISTA! for a slice of its heart-shaped pie.”
PIZZANISTA! and its Joan Jett–inspired murals are located at 2019 E. Seventh St., near Mateo Street. The pizza will be available for four months, starting January 22, at a 20% discount to PETA members—and will fill the heart as well as the stomach, since $2 from each purchase will go to support PETA’s lifesaving work for animals.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
