To mark the historic launch of KFC’s new vegan Beyond Fried Chicken menu item—and because approximately 1,500 chickens are still being killed for their flesh every second—a PETA supporter in a chicken costume will roost outside a local KFC store with a big bucket of the tasty vegan nuggets on Thursday. The “bird” will help animal allies pass out the chicken-free nuggets in a bid to encourage people to keep animals out of slaughterhouses by eating vegan, something that’s easier and more delicious than ever.
When: Thursday, January 13, 12 noon
Where: KFC, 436 S. Semoran Blvd., Orlando
“It’s no skin off our backs to order the crispy, cruelty-free nuggets now available at KFC instead of meaty ones, but it’s a matter of life or death for chickens,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA hopes this giveaway will inspire diners to opt for the vegan version every time they hit the drive-through.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
