PETA supporters decked out in “blood”-spattered “wool” sweaters, “leather” jackets, and “down” coats will cause a stir near the Christmas market as they urge Center City shoppers to protect animals by choosing strictly vegan items for the holidays. Then, they’ll march to the Urban Outfitters store and call on the Philadelphia-based company to leave all animal-derived materials on their original owners, where they belong.
When: Thursday, December 16, 12 noon
Where: The intersection of Market and S. 15th streets, Philadelphia
When: Thursday, December 16, 12:45 p.m.
Where: The spectacle will head toward Urban Outfitters at 1627 Walnut St. (near the intersection with S. 17th Street), Philadelphia.
“Leather purses and down jackets at stores like Urban Outfitters represent sensitive individuals who valued their life just as much as human shoppers value theirs,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA supporters are making a spectacle of themselves to encourage shoppers to be kind to animals this holiday season by buying vegan.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
