Stop the Line of ‘Succession’! Brian Cox Makes Spay/Neuter Plea in ‘THR’

As Succession fans rejoice at the series’ return, they’ll also delight in seeing award-winning actor Brian Cox—who plays the head of the dysfunctional Roy family—deliver a message for PETA in this week’s issue of The Hollywood Reporter. Departing from Logan Roy’s trademark iciness, Cox shows his softer side (and his love for cats!) by asking animal guardians to adopt, spay, and neuter.

“The thing I love about cats is … they’re very dependable,” Cox says in an accompanying video to the campaign. “If you’re looking to bring a companion animal into your house, just remember: Adopt—don’t shop. And remember to spay and neuter. That’s very important.”

PETA notes that an estimated 70 million dogs and cats are homeless in the U.S. at any given time. Only an estimated 10% of them are taken in by animal shelters. The solution is prevention through spaying and neutering—as well as always adopting from animal shelters and never buying animals from breeders or pet stores, which exacerbate the homelessness crisis.

Cox joins a long list of celebrities—including Alan Cumming, Simon Cowell, Michael Keaton, Jude Law, Joaquin Phoenix, James Cromwell, Anjelica Huston, and Gillian Anderson—who have teamed up with PETA entities to promote kindness to animals.
