Following reports that Coldplay is aiming to make its Music of the Spheres world tour as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible, PETA U.K. sent a letter to the group’s members calling on them to go all green by serving only vegan foods during each concert—and offering to help connect them with world-class vegan chefs to make it happen.

In the letter, PETA U.K. points out that raising and killing animals for food contributes to deforestation, water shortages, air pollution, and other environmental problems, while eating vegan can reduce a person’s dietary carbon footprint by up to 73%.

“Serving meat at a concert aiming for sustainability is like selling cigarettes at a cancer benefit,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA hopes to see Coldplay combat the climate crisis by swapping beef burgers for bean burgers at every stop on next year’s tour.”

In addition to helping to protect the planet, each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year daily suffering and a terrifying death; lowers their risk of suffering from strokes, cancer, and heart disease; and helps prevent future pandemics. SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19 all stemmed from confining and killing animals for food.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview, and offers a free vegan starter kit full of recipes, tips, and more. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
