To memorialize the dozens of cows killed or injured when a truck carrying them overturned recently on W. Highway 6 near Buzbee Feed & Seed, PETA plans to place a sky-high message near the crash site proclaiming, “See the Individual. Go Vegan.

“Cows died in terror and agony as a result of this crash,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s memorial will encourage anyone disturbed by the thought of animals suffering on the roadside or under the slaughterhouse knife to go vegan.”

At the slaughterhouse, workers shoot cows in the head with captive-bolt guns, hang them up by one leg, and cut their throats—often while they’re still conscious. Each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals every year.

PETA notes that there have been at least 59 crashes involving trucks carrying animals used for food so far this year and that there were at least 89 last year.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
