Any families thinking of heading to SeaWorld on Labor Day will be met with a message in the sky—PETA and Animal Rights Foundation of Florida supporters will crowd the marine park’s entrance, and a banner flying above will warn, “SeaWorld Abuses Dolphins. Don’t Go.” The scene is a new action in the campaign to stop SeaWorld from condemning marine mammals to a life sentence in cramped tanks, where dolphins and whales are forcibly artificially inseminated and abused in other ways.
When: Monday, September 6, 10–11 a.m. (demonstration) and 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (flyover)
Where: 7007 Sea World Dr., Orlando
“SeaWorld reduces mothers to breeding machines and exploits their babies as show props,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is sending the message that cruelty doesn’t fly.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
