Honorary PETA Director Pamela Anderson is racing to save lives again—along with the planet. Today, the once red-suited star is fronting PETA’s plan to distribute 10,000 Methane Offset Starter Kits to cities across her native British Columbia, where over 250 climate change–fueled wildfires are currently blazing, and across the U.S., where fires have razed entire townships, caused massive evacuations, and destroyed millions upon millions of wild animals’ homes. The kits contain greenhouse-gas emissions–slashing vegan foods (including tofu, nondairy creamer, vegan dark chocolate, and vegan jerky) along with soybean seeds and starter recipes—enough to set anyone on the road to environmentally positive living and healthy, humane eating, something that Anderson embraced personally years ago.

Anderson thought of distributing the kits after seeing a new report just issued by the United Nations’ (U.N.) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which warns that immediate widespread reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions must take place in order to forestall a “code red for humanity.” The U.N. had already reported that a global shift to vegan eating is required to combat the worst effects of climate change, with animal agriculture alone responsible for nearly one-fifth of all human-induced greenhouse-gas emissions.

“Farmers must move away from animal agriculture, and governments must act, but until they do, we have to take personal responsibility to try to save the Earth and future generations—and going vegan is a great step in that direction,” says Anderson, who currently appears naked on a Psycho–themed billboard above PETA’s Los Angeles office, the Bob Barker Building, to school people on animal agriculture’s water waste. “PETA’s kit is a powerful lifesaver for humans, animals, and this planet.”

U.S. cities to receive the kits include Chico and Red Bluff, California, close to the Dixie fire, now the largest fire in state history, and Billings, Montana, where the state’s largest fire this year is burning nearby. In British Columbia, places to receive the kits include Ashcroft, Kamloops, Lillooet, Lytton, and Vernon as well as Vancouver and Anderson’s hometown of Vancouver Island.
