Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo regarding the first Haskell Stakes, scheduled for Saturday at Monmouth Park, since New Jersey banned whipping for Thoroughbred racing:
PETA congratulates Monmouth Park and the state of New Jersey for the first-ever Haskell Stakes in which the horses won’t be repeatedly whipped to make them run faster—a good step toward reducing cruelty. PETA urges all racing states to follow New Jersey’s example and stop beating horses.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment or abuse in any other way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
