PETA Ad to Pay Tribute to Pig Shot Nine Times at Local Slaughterhouse

In honor of the pig who remained standing, bleeding, and crying out for nearly 20 minutes as she was shot eight times in the head at Alex Froehlich Packing Company, PETA plans to place a billboard near the slaughterhouse pointing out who’s responsible for her agonizing and prolonged death: everyone who hasn’t yet gone vegan.

“This crying pig endured blast after blast to her head, all so she could end up on someone’s plate,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s billboard will empower people to go vegan and combat slaughterhouse cruelty with mealtime kindness.”

According to federal documents, a worker shot the pig four times and the slaughterhouse’s owner shot her another time before she fell down. They rolled her out of the stun box that she’d been in, but she got back up and kept crying out, so they forced her back in and shot her four more times, finally rendering her unconscious.

PETA notes that botched slaughterhouse killings are frequent occurrences, including in Cambria County, where nearby Pudliner Packing has been cited for multiple egregious humane handling violations, which authorities have failed to prosecute—prompting PETA to appeal directly to consumers. Pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, and other animals feel pain and fear and value their lives, just as humans do, and the best way to help prevent them from being mutilated, shot, cut open, and bled to death in slaughterhouses is not to eat them.
