Today, the day before her concert at The Palms, rock icon Chrissie Hynde serenaded guests at the public gay wedding of PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews to his partner of six years, production designer Jack Ryan. “Best man” Hynde said in the ceremony, “The only time Dan and I have ever been in a legal proceeding was when we were arrested in a PETA protest at KFC. I’ve had these two clowns stay with me and know how lovestruck they are. It’s sickening, and I’m proud to be their best man.”
Pamela Anderson, who has traveled the world with Mathews on PETA missions for 20 years, was maid of honor at the neon nuptials and joked, “Dan always comes to my weddings, so how could I miss his?” The grooms, who wore Western suits, were showered not with rice but with fake casino chips.
“We’ve been waiting for gay marriage to be legal in Vegas so we could have as tacky a wedding as any straights,” says Mathews. Following the ceremony, the newlyweds jumped into a ’69 Firebird convertible trailing beer cans and plastic flowers and headed to a vegan Thanksgiving dinner at a private home.
