UPDATE: Call and Write to Thank Lolafilms for Making a Compassionate Choice for Bulls
PETA is delighted to have confirmation from Lolafilms, which is producing the new film Manolete, that it will not harm bulls and intends to use only computer-generated images and physical effects during the movie’s bullfighting sequences.
A series of these banderilles (generally six) are stabbed into the neck muscles of the bull during the "fight."
Bullfights, which are illegal in the United States, involve deliberate torture and a bloody, painful death for bulls, who are often intentionally physically debilitated prior to the fight. According to a study reported on by the Associated Press, at least 20 percent of bulls are drugged before they step into the ring. Former bullfighters admit that bulls are fed laxatives to debilitate them days before the fight, have their neck muscles cut to prevent them from lifting their heads all the way up, and have petroleum jelly smeared into their eyes to blur their vision.
PETA is also grateful to Penelope Cruz and her management team for making it clear to PETA and other concerned people that she will not appear in a movie for which an animal is harmed in the making of the film. Manolete, as it turns out, will not be an issue for the lovely star.
We hope that you will take a few moments to join us in relaying our appreciation to the film’s producer and his production company and let them know that compassionate people the world over are pleased with their decision:
